I’m no expert but I would say go out and date. Just casual, nothing serious. Dinners and movies and maybe possibly hikes or something that you both like to do… for now anyway since you are still thinking about your old boyfriend. I have to say though that I think that is very selfish of him to do what he did. Most men are dogs anyway and by the sounds of it it looks he is one too. You deserve someone better than that. You have a daughter to think about.
You had a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship for 18 years??? LOL. That’s so funny. Who stays a girlfriend for almost 2 decades? WOW. Maybe he is teaching the daughter not to be someone’s girlfriend for so long. It’s pointless. Now you are history with nothing to show for all those long years. Had you been a wife, then you could have gotten something for those 18 years.
As for your daughter, just let her alone for a bit… and when you do talk with her or spend time together, don’t say anything bad about her father and don’t talk to her about the relationship ending, etc. she doesn’t need to be put into the middle.
Your daughter does have a brain, and once things calm down, she will “see” things as they are.
Your boyfriend is involved in a rebound relationship — people rebound to prove to themselves or their ex that they are still loveable. rebounds usually don’t work out.
Get some exercise (walk, go to the gym), spend time with people who care about you, involve yourself in a hobby (art, beading, whatever)… keep your mind occupied… Sitting around worrying doesn’t help.. And i DO know it’s difficult.
You should have gotten a ring put on your finger before you had his baby.
