My boyfriend is in the Army and just left for Iraq on 9/20/08. He’s going to be stationed somewhere near Sadr City. Does anyone know how long it will be before he’s allowed to call home?

  1. When my husband was in Baghdad, I didnt hear from him for almost three weeks! Im not too sure why, but it all depends what exactly he’s going to be doing. My husband transported a lot, so he wasnt really settled in one place.
I got letters often tho and sometimes emails. It all depends, just hang in there and keep your head up.

  2. If he left three days ago he should have called you already. The infrastructure that is in place over there now makes it easy enough for him to call you every day if he chooses to. Give him a few days to settle in though, the first couple of weeks are hectic as hell. After that he’ll find his groove and the commo home will be like clockwork. Hang in there, be strong and be patient.

  3. Agree with Mr. Goodkat- He will call when he is able to. Meaning, there is time to call, and there are facilities. don’t know how much has changed since ’03, but if they stay in Kuwait for 2-3 weeks, they should have some phones there. He will have to get a phone card though. Also, tell him “Stay alert, stay alive.”

  4. I suppose that depends on his desire to call you. I’m sure he could have found a way to call by now, but then again maybe he’s just busy. Be patient.

  5. As soon as he gets there, gets settled, and gets time you will hear from him. Good luck and hang in there.

  6. now that they have everything set up there he will be able to call pretty quickly–I would guess within the week–hang in there~~

  7. He will be allowed to call as soon as he has time.
