Question by Tiny paws: Why are people now calling Uruguay “cheaters” if they didn’t get away with it?
Suarez knew very well the consequences. He saved the team but now he can’t play in the next game. Anyone would’ve done the same thing in his position.
Laxguy,
They could be called cheaters if they had gotten away with it…which they didn’t – Suarez received the red card,he’ll miss the upcoming match, and the penalty was given. Would people be calling Uruguay cheaters if Gyan hadn’t missed? Probably not, so what gives? Besides, what Suarez did happened during a BOGUS FREE KICK against Uruguay – a free kick that shouldn’t have been given. That free kick was a bogus call intent on creating a goal scoring opportunity for Ghana. Suarez cheated? Ghanians were trying to cheat when they started diving and kept diving until that free kick was finally given. It pisses me off that they are now trying to play the victim
LOL! I’m not from Uruguay but I am hispanic. You’re comparing two completely different things. A game with murder…come on!
By the way, I am a criminal justice major…I don’t want to waste my time giving details

Because the victory relied on abusing the rules of the game, weighing the costs and benefits of breaking them.
Obviously the tactic they employed was not intended to be used, and goes against the spirit of the game.
That said, you can’t blame them, given the stakes.

I dont get it either
they got caught and Ghana was paid and they lost their chance
GET OVER IT PEOPLEEEEEEEEEE
ITS DONEEEE they didnt cheat
Because in a way they did get away with it. That handball allowed them to beat Ghana and get into the semi finals. And the only suarez got in trouble because of it, not the entire team.
It was a certain goal, stopped by a deliberate hand ball. Its bad sportsmanship to have stopped the ball like that. If it was a tackle or a 50-50 situation, then a penalty would have been fair.
They should really count the goal from now on, or everybody is gonna try to save their team and grab the ball like a goal keeper, when they know all that could happen to them, is be out in a couple games, but when you know the goal is gonna be counted, you just don’t take the risk.
Because they cheated. You don’t have to get away with anything. Learn English please.
Uruguay > Ghana
I would have done the same thing as Suarez but technically, he did stop a clear goal which is why some people call him a cheater but you’re right, he did get punished already.
They don’t understand the rules that’s all. In FIFA rules on the website it states if you stop a goal with your hands, a penalty kick and a red card would be given. It’s debated whether Suarez knew this or not, but I think he did.
Anyway, it’s not cheating if you are caught. I don’t know WHY people don’t understand this. Cheating is Maradona getting a goal in with his hand to win and he wasn’t penalized or anything. Suarez was penalized and Ghana was given a second chance to win it all. They failed. It’s Ghana’s fault.
They are not cheaters at all, it was the only shot they had at winning. The ball would have went in if he did not use his hands to keep it out. He was properly dealt with by the referee for his foul with the penalty and red card. Ghana had a perfect opportunity to win and advance but Gyan missed. They went into penalties and Uruguay won fair and square. It was a last ditch effort on Suarez’s part, and lucky for him it paid off big, despite the fact he will miss the Semifinals.
