Question by harv: can anyone offer any help on reversing a trailer?
my girlfriends parents bought a boat and she is not interested in learning to drive it and stuff so her dad has been teaching me how to drive it, dock it, load onto trailer, etc.
ive only tried backing up the van with the trailer once and i did it ok but with her dad giving help like “a little to the left” etc etc etc.
i want to have a good understanding of how to do it so that we can take the boat out alone next summer.
im just 16 btw so ive only been driving for a year.
could you give me some tips or anything on how to do it?
basically all i know is that you turn in the opposite direction you want the trailer to go, but you must also then turn in the other direction to swing the tow vehicle and to prevent jack knifing it. i guess the key is to go slowly, but anything else? thanks

the basic basic is follow it around/put unit in slight L position/doesnt matter front ward or back now/get out and walk around the whole rig/start saying follow it around and and think of backing it up/take your time and really study it and it will slowly or quickly come to you how it is done/thats how i did it

Steer with the bottom side of the steering wheel and not with the top. When you move the bottom of the wheel left, the boat will go left, when you move it right the boat will go right. This is not the case if you steer with the top of the steering wheel. Also take it slow, there is no need to be in a hurry.
