Question by replay ray: how can i convince my cat that his enemy is gone? afer 11 months in separate rooms,he won’t come out.?
my girlfriend moved in with her cat last may.they never hit it off at all.after their first fight, her cat ended up at the vet with a bite wound.so we seperated them, mine to the bedroom (nice size with view and fresh air ),hers to the rest of the small apt.(also with fresh air and a view).her cat regularly tried to get in the bedroom, sometimes meowing and pawing at he door, which we discouraged by shooing him away.they are both fixed males.finally,my girlfriend got her dad to agree to adopt her cat,but mine just won’t come out.when we left the bedroom door open,he left “presents” on our bed.when i carried him out to show him it was “all clear”, he peed on me. what can i do to help him know it’s ok to come out now?
please note that i said THE bedroom.Crybaby(that’s my cat’s name) did not lack lots of love and attention and human company.my girlfriend and i are both on disability so we are home most of the time.

It’s going to take a while. He was terrorized. First off, don’t drag him out of the room. Second, get some rescue remedy to spread about the place to relax him.

Just take it easy. He’s probably still traumatized.

  1. Tramatized kitty!!! Just give him time. Leave the door open and sit his food just outside the door to coaxe him out. Day by day move it a little further away. He’ll figure it out. Let him decide when he wants to come out. He will when he’s ready. Cats are people too. (LOL)

  2. I think you don’t deserve the right to have that cat. Why would you lock a cat in a room for 11 months? You are mean and don’t care about how the cat would get being in there for so long. Why don’t you lock yourself in a room for 11 months?

  3. take him out of the room and close the door to where he cant get in…leave his food out of the room….do the same thing you did to get him to stay in except opposite place.

  4. Put him in his crate and take him to one room every day, leave him there in the crate in a place where he can see the whole room, an hour or so in each room. Next time in the room, leave the crate door open. Once he has a chance to see each room and see that there’s no other cat in it, he should begin to feel confident enough to leave the crate. It may take time, and be prepared for him to be a bit jumpy as he will still think his enemy is lurking behind every bit of furniture.

  5. Awww. Poor darling is still traumatized.
Bring him out of room, hold him/cuddle him and walk thru entire apt. with him. Do this as often as you can.
If he wants to scratch you, wrap him in a towel with only head out.
He also still smells the other cat. That will diminish in time.

  6. It’s really disappointing to heard that you did that poor thing with cat.You can use your mind but cat can’t! someone says true just lock up yourself in room for 11 months.
