Question by JustMe84: Just laid off of work because I’m “not married”?
Can’t sleep tonight because something is really on my mind. I was recently laid off of work (without any mercy or notice). I was working a blue collar job as an electrical guy, working in a department with all electrical engineers that had degrees and I competed with them very competently without a degree. I was working fulltime and going to college halftime with a 4.0gpa and my boss knew this. Things started to get slow at work and two weeks before I get laid off, my boss asks me “so do you have a wife or kids?” I wanted to stop him and ask him right there “why the f*ck would you ask me something like that?” because I kinda knew what was coming my way. Then two weeks later, bam, at the end of the day Monday, he tells me he’s gotta cut me loose.

Now here’s what p*sses me off the most, out of the whole company, there were three totally incompetent and cocky idiots that I worked with that dind’t know left from right, and they got to stay simply because “they had a family”. So now I had to get cut first, even though I’m a young qualified guy, getting paid half as much as these idiots, and going to school for engineering with a 4.0gpa.

This shows how stupid decisions are made in this country ever day based off of idiot bosses who think they’re saving people in the long run. I have tons of bills to pay and my unemployment paycheck is only 30% of my previous paycheck. But guess what… If you’re married, your unemployment is 80% of your paycheck, WOW. If you’re under 25 you get no break on auto insurance, but guess what… if you’re under 25 and MARRIED, you get a big break on insurance.

It’s as if the “system” encourages people to get “married” and start a family, even when they’re too dumb to support one in the first place. And the young guy trying to build something good for himself gets pushed aside, simply because “HE’S DOESN’T HAVE A FAMILY”

Thoughts anyone?
Redneck_momma My point was that I am very competent at work and these guys can’t even take care of their own family, their paychecks were coming out of my work. Well guess what now, things are only going to get slower, and once they become excess baggage (which they already are) they’re going to get laid off too, and then things aren’t going to be too well for their family unfortunately. I was trying to build my self up with a degree and good experience so I CAN FEED A FAMILY. But I got dropped since I don’t have a family so the boss feels good about what he did. I feel bad for the kid that can’t eat, but if the parents aren’t intelligent enough to know how to save their dough and protect their kids, then they have no business having some in the first place
Dee Thanks for your response. That’s exactly how I feel but you just said it straightforward.

And to the other poster before Dee, no I had the best attitude and was the most politest at work over everyone. Their skills and attitude were just terrible and they never did anything but complain about how bad working was.

Its not always that way–When I was married, I got less. But now that I’m a “single mom” I get more things offered because of that.

  1. The real question is why doesn’t the capitalist system provide enough jobs for all workers along with sufficient pay?

The Solution to the Auto Crisis That no one is Talking About
    By B.E.M

There’s an obvious solution to the global economic slump that will never, ever enter into the range of possibilities being suggested by the wealthy ruling-elite. Raise worker wages.

The essence of the problem is that the capitalist system has no capacity to provide for the majority working class whose labor creates all of society’s wealth. The need of the super-rich minority to sit on their butts and collect exorbitant profits from the labor of the productive members of society is totally incompatible with any type of decent living standards for the working class majority. The real problem in a capitalist society is that a robust economy of high-wage earners doesn’t produce sufficient profits, or sufficient profit growth for the real capitalists. This reality has come to the fore and is being reflected in the auto crisis.

Capitalism is class warfare, plain and simple. Profits for executives and shareholders are derived from the virtual enslavement of the global labor force. Almost half of the world’s people earn less than $ 2 per day as they toil long, hard hours producing the goods upon which the global capitalist system rests. A full 80% of all workers earn less than $ 10 per day. Those figures do not include the many millions more who work for poverty wages in the developed nations. This virtual slave labor is essential to capitalism and the wealthy-elite. Without it, capitalism would utterly collapse. This helps to explain, in part, why the most obvious solution to the global auto slump is completely absent from the corporate media.

The decline in auto sales is global, affecting every auto maker all throughout the world. The decline in auto sales is not due to a lack of need or desire for new cars; nor is it due to a lack of capacity to produce new cars. Additionally, the cars of today are of a much higher quality than the cars of a few decades ago when they were expected to fall apart and veer towards the junkyard as they neared 100,000 miles. The decline in auto sales is due directly to the inability of the world’s impoverished workforce to be able to afford to buy new cars. To any logical minded person, the obvious solution required to increase car sales is to raise global wages. But that isn’t at all what the capitalist ruling-class is calling for. In fact, they are calling for exactly the opposite, a wage cut. Capitalism is incompatible with a decent society and middle class living standard for working people and that reality grows more and more obvious each and every day. .

Clearly, there’s a vast market chock full of people wanting to purchase new cars, but their insufficient pay simply won’t allow for it. Global Issues reports that, “almost half the world — over three billion people — live on less than $ 2.50 a day” and “at least 80% of humanity lives on less than $ 10 a day.” There are over 6.5 billion people in the world. If we brought all working class people up to the level of a living wage, that’s one hell of a lot of new cars that would get sold.

The capitalist system has no capacity or intention of raising wages for workers. On the contrary, the capitalists work diligently to drive down wages. The unions are of no help because they too are capitalist entities themselves competing in a global economy. That’s why they spend most of their time negotiating layoffs and concessions to their members on behalf of the corporations.

Not only are U.S. worker wages stagnant, so too are the wages of European workers. The rich have looted the global wealth of the working class and now global GDP has nowhere to go but down. The only solution that the capitalists can possibly come up with is more slashed wages and more poverty along with a reduction in the number of capitalists. As global GDP declines, there are simply too many capitalists chasing too few profits. The bottom rung of capitalists, including small business owners, retail stock investors and 401k owners, are currently being trashed and driven out of the capitalist markets. International capitalist rivals will be driven out through attrition and war.

Capitalism cannot survive a raise in wages to living wage status for the global workforce. Profits come from the severe exploitation of labor. A living wage would go a long way to ending that exploitation. No exploitation = no profits. No profits = no capitalism. Socialism is the only way forward for the working class.

  2. If you feel like you were fired illegally (which not being married would be), then go to the Labor Board and file complaints and possibly sue them for what they did.

  3. I guess my friend that the country is just getting what to be prioritized especially in times of global economic recession. Companies preferred to choose a married one because of a great obligation to his family. I know it’s unfair for us singles, but how they look into that.

I guess it’s a good time for us to get married. Lately, I meet my ideal girl via the help of the dating service sites. If you have time you may get in touched of knowing nice russian girls at http://russiandatingmall.com/ and http://odessadarlings.com/

  4. OK, so you have bills to pay…but would you rather go without dinner tonight, or would you rather some poor kids go without dinner tonight?

  5. You may well have a dispute that could get you a big pay-off. I would contact a labor laws attorney and ask them how to proceed. If you have seniority over anyone who was not let go, then you should fight for your rights, and take them to court.

    PLEASE consider this !

You are being discriminated against, plain and simple.

Find an attorney and get what is your due.

    Best of luck, hon

  6. It’s just a redirection; something better is out there, you’ll be much happier working for someone else or yourself. It’ll all work out, xxx

  7. FILE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVENT DONE SO.

Tell them about your bosses questioning. Depending on your state, him simply asking you that question (let alone the fact that it seems it was used against you to fire you) could be illegal.

I know for a fact that my fiance isnt allowed to ask certain questions of his employees.

  8. Getting fired always stinks, but there is another way to look at this. Your former boss saw your potential and felt you would recover quicker from the loss of a job because of your qualifications. Potential employers will too,and that’s what you need to focus on so that you get a new job to pay your bills. Many bills like student loans also offer deferments when you are unemployed. However, if you feel that life is terribly unfair to single guys with great credentials, you can always do what the other guys did and get married. It is possible your boss was not a bleeding heart but looking at the married guys as people willing to commit to not only a spouse but an employer, which made them a better company risk because of loyalty. Also, while I am not suggesting you get married for work reasons, the people that have families need their 80% unemployment. You find it hard to eat and pay your bills with 30%, but their 80% feels to them like 30% to you, perhaps worse, because they have bills too AND a family to feed to go along with those bills. Thank G-d you don’t have to worry about feeding a family while paying those same bills and get busy looking for another job instead of feeling sorry for yourself. That attitude will keep you out of work longer, and unbeknownst to you, may have been a factor in your getting cut first too. After all, you refer to your former co-workers as idiots and many times our feelings show in our demeanor and behavior at work. Your comments to red momma about them not being smart enough to feed their families suggest you felt you are better than them but your boss may not agree with your analysis. After all, how do you know what these guys G.P.A.’s were in school? You do come across as cocky and disdainful of your co-workers. So if you were a hiring/firing manager and you had two candidates: one that’s very bright and good at what he does but sees himself as G-d’s gift and another that isn’t quite so bright but is a team player and good for company morale-especially during lay offs, who would you pick? The system doesn’t encourage people to get married, but there are rewards for commitment and there should be. It takes a certain level of maturity to make that commitment and that is an asset to both employers and society. BTW, you can sue as you are being advised here but employers consider people that do “trouble makers” and that may make it harder to find a job.

  9. You know that really pisses me off for you. This IS discrimination and I would for sure go to the labor board about this.

Yeah, yeah, everyone feels bad for the kids. But you know what. Because other people are married and have a family isn’t your problem. That is the life they picked and this is the life you picked. The person who should have been let go should have been decided on job performance. Period.

  10. those other guys aren’t there solely based on their job performance. they are there because they are well liked and perform enough to get by. jobs are not based solely on performance no matter what anyone says. never have been, never will be.
